YPA Cafecito: Elections in Peru and Colombia
Rosa Arevalo Leon of CUNY and Will Freeman of the Council on Foreign Relations will speak on the two tight elections in an off-the-record conversation.
Overview
Both Peru and Colombia will elect new presidents over the next several weeks in contests considered toss-ups.
Peruvians voted in the first round of the presidential contest on April 12 and 13 and the results are still not finalized. As of right now, it seems the June 7 runoff will be polarized—with the two candidates far apart on the political spectrum. Meanwhile, Colombians will vote on May 31 to pick a successor to leftist President Gustavo Petro. Will they pick his political heir or option to swing to the right?
Rosa Arevalo Leon of CUNY will speak on Peru and Will Freeman of the Council on Foreign Relations will speak on Colombia, in an off-the-record conversation with Young Professionals of the Americas. The two will engage in an off-the-record Q&A with members before a networking drinks reception.
