Overview

Council of the Americas will hold a discussion on Venezuela, corruption, and international criminal networks with Vanessa Neumann, president of Asymmetrica.

For four years, Dr. Neumann was a member of the High-Level Risk Forum Task Force on Charting Illicit Trade at the OECD, and served as sub-chair of it for two years. Her work for government and law enforcement has encompassed Interpol, the U.S. Army Asymmetric Warfare Group, the U.S. State Department, and the U.S. Defense Department. She edited and reviewed the teaching and reference text for the U.S. Special Operations Command on counterinsurgency in Colombia. A native Venezuelan, she has written for publications in Caracas, London, and the United States.

In her new book, Blood Profits, Neumann, an expert on dismantling illicit trade, explains how purchasing illegal goods often translates to supporting organized crime and global terrorism. Copies of Blood Profits will be available for signature and purchase.
