Overview

The oil and gas industry paints a promising yet complex picture in Latin America. The region sits atop abundant resources whose commercial potential offers the means for public revenues, industrial development, and economic growth. But developing them—particularly through advanced technologies and unconventional extraction methods—raises justified concerns about the social and environmental impacts of industry operations. Government, industry, and civil society are continually striving to balance prudent industry governance with investment-friendly conditions.

Council of the Americas Energy Action Group will host a discussion on the critical dynamic between industry investments and environmental stewardship in the oil and gas industry.

The meeting will be an interactive working group session on collaborative models for resource governance. The discussion will be chaired by the board of directors of STRONGER, a multi-stakeholder initiative between government, industry, and civil society that designs and enhances US-state regulations for oil and gas operations.

The meeting will examine the regulatory conditions that contributed to the US oil and gas renaissance and explore how similar models can be applied in Latin America.

Please join us for an important discussion on enhancing the investment climate for Latin America’s energy sector.
