Overview

The United States and Mexico share one of the most tightly-integrated, complementary, and mutually beneficial energy relationships in the world. The flow of resources and energy investments across the border has been central to building dynamic and globally competitive North American economies.

Mexico’s energy industry is now poised for potential change. The incoming government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador is considering new policies for the sector that align with the social and economic mandates he was elected to fulfill. Meanwhile, the recently finalized U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement on trade establishes a new framework for all industries to weigh investment decisions.

Council of the Americas will hold a private discussion with Alberto de la Fuente, president of the of the Mexican Association of Hydrocarbons (AMEXHI), the main business association for Mexico’s oil and gas industry, on the energy industry’s view of Mexico’s changing policy landscape. AMEXHI represents nearly 50 member companies whose combined oil production totals than one-fifth of global output. Founded in 2015, AMEXHI has been the leading voice for the private sector throughout Mexico’s energy reform process.

Please join this important discussion about the future of a key industry for both Mexico and North America.
