Argentine singer-songwriter Charo Bogarín returns to Music of the Americas after fifteen years with La Charo, a solo project that revisits the rhythms and musical languages of South America.
Nourished by the vocal traditions of native women from Argentina’s Indigenous communities and by her own formal training as an opera singer, the artist creates a sound that is both ancient and modern. La Charo's compositions recall a continent of great artists like Chabuca Granda and Violeta Parra telling tales of life and of love.
La Charo is the co-founder of Tonolec, a duo that has for over 15 years fused electronic music with the ancestral songs of Indigenous communities, performing internationally (their US debut was on Music of the Americas in 2007). She has published one book, four albums, and one DVD.
The MetLife Foundation Music of the Americas concert series is made possible by the generous support of Presenting Sponsor MetLife Foundation.
The Fall 2024 Music program is also supported, in part, by the Howard Gilman Foundation, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
