Overview

Organized jointly with Visual AIDS, this panel considers contemporary responses to the international AIDS crisis in relation to the work of Feliciano Centurión (1962–1996). Working in Buenos Aires in the 1980s and 1990s, Centurión’s painting and embroidery renders poetic renderings of love in the city, his youth in the tropics, and his spiritual reflections before his untimely death due to AIDS-related illness. The program will highlight themes of sexuality and illness in Centurión’s work, as well as his resonance with contemporary artists across differences in geography and sociopolitical context.

Speakers include curator Bill Arning and artists Elektra KB and Carlos Motta. Moderated by Gonzalo Casals (Executive Director, Leslie-Lohman Museum).

Visual AIDS utilizes art to fight AIDS by provoking dialogue, supporting HIV+ artists, and preserving a legacy, because AIDS is not over.
