Overview

Council of the Americas will hold a private discussion on U.S.-Chile relations with U.S. ambassador-designate to Chile, Carol Z. Perez.

Chile is a leader in democracy and a global partner in trade. As signatories to the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement, the United States and Chile are committed to developing a trade agreement for the Asia-Pacific region. The United States is an observer of the Pacific Alliance, of which Chile is a founding member. Both countries are members of APEC, to be hosted by Peru in November this year.

Perez is currently the principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Human Resources at State Department, a position she has held since 2015. Perez served in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs as principal deputy assistant secretary from 2013 to 2015 and as deputy assistant secretary from 2011 to 2013.
