Overview

President Dilma Rousseff's reelection on October 26 provides a compelling opportunity to discuss the direction of Brazil’s foreign policy under 12 years of Workers' Party governance and a look ahead at Brazilian priorities under the next administration. Will Brazil pursue an approach similar to past experience or are new directions likely? How does Brazil envision its global role vis-à-vis Latin America and the Caribbean, the United States and European Union, and the BRICS?  What are the main priorities of the Brazilian government going forward?

Speakers:

  • Mauro Vieira, Brazilian Ambassador to the United States
  • David Rothkopf, CEO and Editor of the FP Group, author of the recently released book National Insecurity: Making U.S. Foreign Policy in an Age of Fear
  • Eric Farnsworth, Vice President, Americas Society/Council of the Americas (moderator)
