Editorial Associate, AS/COA Online
New York

Americas Society and Council of the Americas seeks an editorial associate with demonstrated digital media experience and knowledge of Latin America to join AS/COA Online, the team of our website. In addition to having experience crafting online content and social media, the person should be able to manage competing requests from across departments and three U.S. offices. 

Americas Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA) are sister organizations providing the most trusted forum for debate on issues affecting the Western Hemisphere. Headquartered in New York City, AS/COA also has offices in Washington and Miami and holds high-level events across the United States and Latin America. This role is based in New York. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Editorial: Editing, writing and producing content for AS/COA Online, including programmatic and organizational materials, explainers, infographics and trackers, Q&As, video pages, newsletters, and podcasts. Support first edits, copyedits, and proofing of website content. 
  • External communications: Support programmatic teams’ content needs by copyediting event and conference descriptions with an eye to SEO best practices. 
  • Social media: Promoting, creating graphics and clips, and posting bilingual content about AS/COA’s publications and events to organizations’ main social media profiles. Playing a central role in AS/COA’s social media strategy and staying informed of best social media practices across platforms. 
  • Website updates and CMS Management: Supporting updates to homepage and content across the site, troubleshooting website bugs. 
  • Photo research: Conducting photo research for images to accompany AS/COA content and events, and providing photo selection and editing support to other departments.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum two years’ experience working with online media and updating web content. 
  • Excellent English-language writing and editing skills. 
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred, Portuguese a plus. Knowledge of Latin America—especially South America—preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with social media strategy, particularly when it comes to increasing followers and engagement, community management, and creating effective marketing tools. 
  • Experience with Adobe CS, Canva, Mailchimp, Slack, task management tools, data visualization tools such as infogram, and audio editing experience a plus. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks for effective completion, and to be detail-oriented a must. 
  • BA or MA in journalism, communications, international affairs, or other relevant field. 

This is a full-time position. Employees are currently working a hybrid schedule each week. 

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $60-$65k. In addition, AS/COA offers outstanding benefits including an excellent health and dental plan, vacation, and generous 401(k) retirement plan.
