Costa Rica’s Election: A Bad Day for Incumbents, but Some Hope Ahead

The next president will have an opportunity to be a true leader in Central America.

SAN JOSÉ – Costa Rica on Sunday became the latest Latin American country to see voters lash out at the status quo, as the ruling party candidate received less than 1% of the vote in the first-round presidential election. But neither of the candidates who will now compete in the April runoff is a radical seeking to burn the house down.
