In an interview on Al Jazeera's Newshour, AS/COA's Vice President Eric Farnsworth talked about the election's impact on the democratic process in Paraguay. Farnsworth said that the election of Horacio Cartes from the Colorado Party is a chance for Paraguay to "restore its credentials and return to good standing." He notes that part of the reason Cartes won was because there is a certain familiarity to the Colorado Party, and that people were "voting for a return to what they knew."

While the presidential impeachment in Paraguay followed a constitutional process, it "violated the spirit of the law because the president was denied his rights to due process," AS/COA's Christopher Sabatini told Voz de América. (en español)
