After Chile's Congress approved an ambitious tax reform package on September 10, COA's Vice President Eric Farnsworth spoke with CCTV about what the reforms mean for the country. The legislation will eliminate tax breaks for the private sector and raise corporate taxes, and the funds raised will help the Chilean government fund social reforms, said Farnsworth. President Michelle Bachelet promised these reforms during her campaign, particularly education reform. Farnsworth gave his perspective on Chile's economy as a whole, including his concern about the country's dependency on commodity exports in light of a slowing Chinese economy.
