Music of the Americas: Brazil

En Casa this week is dedicated to Brazilian musicians from Salvador and São Paulo.

En Casa continues with videos by Brazilian musicians, including bassist Talita Felício, alone and with her trio Ternoar and guitarist Thiago Leite Barbosa. Recuerdos will be back next week.

En Casa: Talita Felício

Tuesday, February 14, 10 am

Brazilian bassist and singer Talita Felício was born and lives in Salvador. She started her musical journey at the age of 11 through a social project. Currently, she works as a bassist and in concert music as well as in Brazilian popular music.

From Salvador Felício sent us a medely including Novos baianos' "Acabou chorare" and Tom Zé's "Menina, amanhã de manhã."

En Casa: Thiago Leite Barbosa

Wednesday, February 15, 10 am

Guitarist Thiago Leite Barbosa started his musical studies at 14 in São Paulo, continued at EMESP, and graduated from Universidade Estadual Paulista. He also participated in festivals, including the Festival de Inverno de Campos do Jordão and the International Music Festival Koblenz. He has won several awards in Brazil.

From home in Osasco, in the city of São Paulo, he sent us "Rosto Colado" (Cheek to Cheek), a bolero dedicated by the composer to the great Brazilian guitarist/composer Guinga. This famous genre, known in Brazil as a samba-canção, had its heyday in the music of Tom Jobim, Dolores Duran, Lupicínio Rodrigues, Maísa, and João Bosco, who all wrote masterpieces in this style.

En Casa: Ternoar

Thursday, February 16, 10 am

Formed in December 2022, in Salvador, Ternoar (guitarist Cauan Roque, clarinetist Jarder Ryan, and bassist Talita Felício) explores the intersection of Brazilian popular music and the members' training in concert music. The trio’s repertoire spans the rich landscape of Brazilian popular music, with a special focus on northeastern rhythms.

From Salvador, they sent us their version of Dorival Caymmi's "Acaçá."
