Video: Argentina's 2017 Economic Outlook with FIEL Chief Economists

The mother of all battles is government expenditure reform, say economists of the Fundación of Investigaciones Económicas Latinoamericanas.

Speakers:

  • Daniel Artana, Chief Economist, FIEL; Presentation, "Fiscal and External Challenges Ahead"
  • Santiago Urbiztondo, Chief Economist, FIEL; Presentation, "Regulation of Public Utilities: Achievements, Drawbacks, and Challenges"
  • Juan Luis Bour, Chief Economist, FIEL; Presentation, "Disinflation and Recovery"

After difficult fiscal adjustments, changes to energy subsidies, and lifting currency controls in 2016, Argentina's economy is on track to recovery. Chief economists of Fundación of Investigaciones Económicas Latinoamericanas (FIEL) presented on the sectors that showed the best improvements, while also pointing to those still underperforming. Among the top challenges are much-needed reforms to government expenditure, said Daniel Artana. But the problem with such reforms is that they could cost President Mauricio Macri's Let's Change coalition some votes in the upcoming October midterm elections.
