Americas Society and Council of the Americas, in partnership with Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will host their twelfth annual Latin American Cities Conference in Lima. AS/COA’s Lima conference will bring together key government officials and private sector leaders to discuss the country’s infrastructure needs and investment opportunities in light of a new climate reality.

Pedro Pablo Kuczynski

President of Peru

Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was elected president of Peru in 2016. Previously, he was prime minister (2005–2006), economy and finance minister (2001–2002, 2004–2005), energy and mines minister (1980–1982), head of the Central Bank (1961–1969). Kuczynski was a partner of the Latin America Private Equity fund and a senior advisor at The Rohatyn Group. He was the founder, president, and chief executive officer of both the Latin American Enterprise Fund and Westfield Capital from 1992 to 2001.

Mercedes Aráoz Fernández

Prime Minister of Peru

Mercedes Aráoz Fernández was named prime minister of Peru in September 2017. Previously, she was second vice president and congresswoman since July 2016. Aráoz Fernandez has also served as country representative for the Inter-American Development Bank in Mexico and as the first female finance minister of Peru from 2009 to 2010. She served as minister of foreign trade and tourism from 2006 to 2009, and also as Peru’s production minister during 2009.

Transport and Communications Minister of Peru

Bruno Giuffra Monteverde is Peru’s transport and communications minister. Previously, he served as production minister. Giuffra carries more than 25 years of experience in the private sector, where he was president of Promotick, Distana, and Cuponium Corporation. He holds a bachelor’s in economics from Universidad de Lima and an MBA from Babson College.

Chairwoman, Compañía Minera San Ignacio de Morococha

Isabel Arias is the chairwoman of Compañía Minera San Ignacio de Morococha. She is vice president of the board of CEDRO. Previously, she was commercial director of Industrias Alimenticias. and manager of Compañía Minera San Ignacio de Morococha, Servicios Pachachaca, and Cleighdan Trading. Arias was also director of Sociedad Minera Gran Bretaña and a member of the board of directors of the Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas del Perú.

Elena Conterno Martinelli

President, Peruvian National Fishing Association

Elena Conterno Martinelli is president of Peru’s National Fishing Association. She also serves as director of Scotiabank Peru since March 2015. Conterno has served as a board member of public entities as MiVivienda Fund, Cofide, and Foncodes, as well as in various executive and advisory positions in institutions public sector such as Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Economy and Finance Ministry, and Transport and Communications Ministry, among others. She has been a consultant to USAID, World Bank, the IDB, the UNDP, and GIZ.

Executive Director, Autoridad para la Reconstrucción con Cambios

Pablo de la Flor Belaunde is executive director of Autoridad para la Reconstrucción con Cambios (RCC). Previously, he was manager of corporate affairs at Banco de Crédito de Peru and vice president of corporate affairs at Antamina. De la Flor has also served as vice trade minister where he led the U.S.-Peru Free Trade Agreement negotiations. He holds a bachelor’s in political science from Indiana University and a master’s in public administration from Harvard University.

Gonzalo Gil Plano

Vice President and Head of Corporate Finance, Scotiabank Peru

Gonzalo Gil Plano is vice president and head of Scotiabank Peru’s Corporate Finance group. He also serves as chairman of La Fiduciaria, a leading trust services company in Peru. Previously, he was part of corporate finance and capital markets teams of Scotiabank and Citibank. Gil Plano was also general manager of Citileasing and chairman of Citicorp Peru. Additionally, from 2011 until 2013 he served as chief financial officer of Edegel, where he also participated as a board member.

German Jiménez Vega

Country Manager, Pluspetrol

German Jiménez Vega has been the country manager for Pluspetrol since June 2011. In this role, he sits as chairman of the boards of Pluspetrol Perú Corporación, Pluspetrol Norte, Pluspetrol E&P, Pluspetrol Camisea, and Pluspetrol Lote 56. Previously, he worked for over 20 years at Royal Dutch Shell where he was based in Houston as senior manager of mergers and acquisitions in the Americas and as senior manager of business and strategy. Jiménez has also been the director of the educational organization Corporación Pamer.

President, Latin America Beverages, PepsiCo

Luis Montoya is president of the Latin America Beverages Division of PepsiCo. Montoya began his PepsiCo career in 1991 as a market manager for Peru and Ecuador, and has held several positions since, including general manager, Central America; franchise vice president, Mexico and most recently business unit general manager, Northern Latin American Beverages (NOLA). Montoya holds an industrial engineering degree from the Universidad Católica del Perú and an MBA from the Krannert School at Purdue University.

Alberto Ñecco Tello is executive director of ProInversión. Previously, he was director of special projects at ProInversión. He has held various positions in investment banking, corporate finance, and project management at Creditcorp, BCP, ING, Consultoria A, Deutsche Bank, and the Clinton Foundation. He holds a bachelor’s in economics from Universidad de Lima and an MBA from INSEAD.

Ambassador of Peru to the United States

Carlos Pareja is the ambassador of Peru to the United States. Previously, he served as ambassador to Chile, Spain, and Switzerland. Pareja has also served as director of Africa, Middle East, and Gulf Countries and director of the Americas in Peru’s Foreign Affairs Ministry. He holds a bachelor of law from Universidad San Martín de Porres, a bachelor of arts from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and a master’s in diplomacy and foreign relations from the Academia Diplomática del Perú.

Eleonora Silva is director representative of CAF Peru. She has served in various roles in CAF since 1994 including as vice president of finance. Previously, she worked as sector manager for treasury at Banco Provincial de Venezuela and head of operations for Banco de Maracaibo. Silva holds a bachelor’s and master’s in agricultural economics from Gainesville University.

Director of the Western Hemisphere Department, International Monetary Fund

Alejandro Werner is the director of the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund. Previously, he served as the head of corporate and investment banking at BBVA Bancomer, undersecretary and head of economic planning at Mexico’s Finance and Public Credit Secretariat, and director of economic studies at the Central Bank of Mexico. Werner has taught economics courses at the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid and at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2007.

President and CEO, Americas Society/Council of the Americas

Susan Segal was elected president and CEO of the Americas Society and Council of the Americas in August 2003 after working in the private sector with Latin America and other emerging markets for over 30 years. A passionate supporter of Latin America, she joined the organizations to implement a new strategic plan to renew and return the Society and Council to their historic position. Prior to her current position, she was a founding partner of her own investment and advisory group focused primarily on Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic sector.
