It is with great sadness that Americas Society shares news of the passing of our dear friend and long-time supporter Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat.

It is with great sadness that Americas Society shares news of the passing of our dear friend and long-time supporter Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat. She was an extraordinary person and clearly a woman ahead of her time in terms of her many accomplishments. Amalia was an early supporter of the Americas Society as well the longstanding patron of our Literature program. She will always be admired, remembered, and deeply missed.

A leader in Argentine business and philanthropy, she inherited the Loma Negra cement firm and large cattle ranches after her husband Alfredo's death in 1976. She went on to expand Loma Negra, building up the company during her 25-year leadership through major infrastructure projects across Argentina.

Her passion for the arts and philanthropy led her to create the Alfredo Fortabat and Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat Foundation (later renamed the Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat Foundation), which promoted educational and cultural initiatives in Argentina and internationally. In 2001, she established the Fortabat Museum in Buenos Aires to house 400 pieces of art that were part of her personal collection. The museum hosts works by Argentine and international artists, including Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, and Andy Warhol.
