Mexico 2017 Video: Brian Porter and Susan Segal on North American Relations

The CEOs of Scotiabank and AS/COA talked about how the links between Canada, Mexico, and the United States make North America the most competitive region in the world.

At the 2017 Latin American Cities Conference in Mexico City, Brian Porter, the president and CEO of Scotiabank and AS/COA's president and CEO Susan Segal spoke about North American relations. Porter said recent reforms in Mexico are benefiting the country's economy. He emphasized that Mexico's demographics, existing free-trade agreements, and skilled workforce are attractive points for the Mexican economy, and highlighted growing Canadian investment in the country. But Porter also noted that Mexico needs to continue to improve the rule of law. 

Segal also asked Porter about the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement, known as NAFTA, and border taxes included in the Trump administration's budget proposal. The speakers both showed optimism that the agreement can be modernized and the North American economy will continue its growth trajectory.
