CCTV: Farnsworth on Venezuelan Talks and the Political Crisis

In an interview with CCTV, Council of the Americas Vice President Eric Farnsworth discusses the political crisis in Venezuela and the mediated talks between the government and opposition leaders. Predicting a successful outcome is difficult as "common ground is not readily apparent" and there is no certainty that a mediator will impose a decision, says Farnsworth. In response to President Nicolás Maduro's claims that the opposition has been working with U.S. support, Farnsworth notes that the protests began with students and without any formal organization until later in the process. Because the situation so polarized, it may be difficult to get various sectors working together to get the economy back on track, he added.
