Eliane Cantanhêde

Eliane Cantanhêde is political columnist for Folha de Sao Paulo, where her column appears on page A2 every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. She is also a news commentator on the television program “Globonews Em Pauta” and collaborates with Rádio Metrópole da Bahia. Since Cantanhêde began reporting for Folha de Sao Paulo in 1997, she has focused primarily on Brazilian politics, foreign policy, and defense as well as social and behavioral policies. She has travelled to the United States, Venezuela, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico, the former Czechoslovakia, Japan, France, Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands, India, and several countries in Africa on assignment. Cantanhêde’s portfolio includes interviews with Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, Bolivian president Evo Morales, Ecuadoran president Rafael Correa, Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos, Mexican president Felipe Calderón and more recently Portuguese prime minister Pedro Passos Coelho and William Hague, the Foreign Minister from the United Kingdom. Cantanhêde holds a degree in journalism from the Universidade de Brasília.
