Bruno Covas

Mayor, City of São Paulo

Bruno Covas is mayor of São Paulo. He took office as a mayor in April 2018, after former mayor João Doria stepped down to run for governor of the state of São Paulo. Before serving as a vice-mayor, Covas served as federal deputy by the state of São Paulo. He also served in the São Paulo city hall as chief of staff and secretary of the regional city halls. Before it, he was elected state deputy twice, being the most voted one in the state of São Paulo in 2010.  He was acknowledged by Voto Consciente, a nonprofit, as one of the most active deputies. Covas was also secretary of the environment for Governor Geraldo Alckmin and president of the PSDB’s national youth. He worked in the private sector at Braga Marafom, a law firm, and taught constitutional law at ESAMC. He holds a law degree from the University of São Paulo and a degree in economics from PUC-SP.
