Overview

PLEASE NOTE: This event has been postponed.

AS/COA will host Santiago Creel (PAN), Congresswoman Amalia García (PRD), and María Elena Orantes (MC) for a public panel in New York. All three hold key leadership positions in Mexico’s main political parties. In 2014, Congress and President Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration focused on passing secondary legislation for the structural reforms negotiated through the Pacto por México. Recent developments in terms of security, rule of law, human rights, and the ongoing decline in oil prices have brought challenges that the country will need to address in 2015. The legislators will discuss their views on these topics and the implications of the midterm elections.

Panelists*:

  • Santiago Creel Miranda, National Advisor and Former Minister of Interior, National Action Party (PAN)
  • Amalia García, Congresswoman and National Spokeswoman, Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD)
  • Maria Elena Orantes, Secretary General of Agreements, Citizen Movement (MC)
  • Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) representative (TBC)

*Additional panelists to be confirmed
