Overview

Join Americas Society Visual Arts for a panel discussion on our latest exhibition. Admission to this event is free of charge; registration is required.

Exhibition artist María Martínez-Cañas will be a panelist, along with José Falconi (Harvard University) and exhibition curator Taína Caragol (National Portrait Gallery). Americas Society's Assistant Curator Christina De León will moderate.

The discussion will point out how these contemporary artists invent or reconstruct their identities theatrically, while breaking the conventions of traditional portraiture. The conversation will also address the different meanings of being Latino in both the United States and art.
