Overview

Council of the Americas will hold an off-the-record discussion on the peace process in Colombia and the challenges that lay ahead in the implementation phase of the peace agreements with Humberto de la Calle, chief peace negotiator for the Colombian government and former vice president of Colombia.

As a government minister, de la Calle acted on behalf of the government of Colombia in the Constitutional Assembly that issued the 1991 Constitution. As ambassador of Colombia to the Organization of American States (OAS), between 2001 and 2003, he presided over the deliberations that led to the adoption of the Inter-American Democratic Charter in the OAS. He served as vice president of Colombia between 1996 and 1998. He has also served as university professor, magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, and ambassador to Spain and the United Kingdom, and minister of the interior and national registrar of civil status. In September 2012, he was appointed head of the Delegation of the National Government in the Dialogues of Havana.

This will be an excellent opportunity to exchange views on U.S.-Colombia relations and the implementation phase of the peace agreements in Colombia.

Please note this event will be held in Spanish.
