Overview

Council of the Americas and the American Enterprise Institute will hold a private, off-the-record roundtable discussion with Bogotá-based Marcela Prieto Botero, Colombian political scientist and public policy analyst at Foros Semana. She will discuss the pending peace accords and what comes next.

Hoping to end the 50-year armed conflict in Colombia that has claimed more than 220,000 lives, President Juan Manuel Santos in 2012 launched negotiations with the armed guerrilla group known as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). This fall, negotiators are expected to reach a comprehensive agreement with the FARC to end the war, demobilize the guerrilla army, and incorporate ex-combatants into civil society. Join us to discuss this and other critical issues regarding the peace accords.
