Overview

Council of the Americas will hold a private conversation with assistant secretary of state for international narcotics and law enforcement, William Brownfield.

As the Olympic Summer Games are scheduled to begin August 5 in Rio de Janeiro, Central America continues to struggle, Colombia readies for peace, and Venezuela deteriorates, among other developments, citizen security and rule of law are much on the minds of regional leaders and U.S. government officials alike. Addressing these issues over the longer term is paramount for development and growing economies, in which the private sector has an enormous stake.

This will be an excellent opportunity to hear directly from senior state department leadership on priorities and prospects for partnership that address citizen security and rule of law issues effectively in Latin America and the Caribbean.
