Why Women in Argentina Have Called for a Day of Mourning

An organizer of Argentina's Ni Una Menos tells AQ that the Oct. 19 protests highlight a global problem – and growing empowerment.

On October 19 women across Argentina will protest femicide – the killing of women because they are women. The particularly chilling murder of a 16-year-old girl has inspired women's rights group Ni Una Menos (Not One Less) to call for a day of mourning dubbed “Black Wednesday,” which will include a "women's strike" and a march to government offices at Buenos Aires’ Plaza de Mayo.
