Pacific Alliance Rift: Chile Tries to Mend Ties Between Mexico and Peru

Caught in the political storm of Peru’s presidential transition, the regional group is being kept leaderless by Mexico’s refusal to pass the baton.

SANTIAGO - Chile is quietly pulling diplomatic strings to heal a political rift in the Pacific Alliance, the nuts-and-bolts platform of regional integration it shares with Mexico, Peru and Colombia. The group’s presidency follows a yearly rotation, and Peru should have followed Mexico’s.
