BBC: The U.S. Knows "the Venezuelan People are Different than the Venezuelan Government."

AS/COA's Eric Farnsworth spoke with BBC World News America about the new U.S. sanctions against Venezuela after the country's May 20 elections.

"The Venezuelan people are different than the Venezuelan government," said Eric Farnsworth to BBC World News America when explaining the balance the U.S. government is trying to keep when applying further sanctions over the country living an humanitarian crisis. "Anything that could be perceived as too heavy-handed by United States could be perceived in some quarters as counter-productive. Still they want to take steps to try to move Venezuela back toward the democratic path."

Farnsworth also talked about the situation of the oil sector the country is dependent on and the possibilities of the newly elect president Nicolás Maduro facing problems in his inner circle.
