Muñoz, foreign minister during the Lagos and Bachelet administrations and current head of the Party for Democracy, analyzed Chile’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic in the wake of a period of deep social unrest. In this virtual conversation with Susan Segal, Muñoz spoke about the need for deep-seated reform in areas including health, pensions, housing, and education. He criticized the current administration’s management of the pandemic, but praised how pro-government and opposition parties have engaged in dialogue and addressed challenges together. Muñoz said urged for the country’s October constitutional referendum to be secured.
