Video: Congressman Eliot Engel on Elections in Central America and U.S. Policy

On November 12, the Council of the Americas hosted a discussion on U.S. policy in Central America and the upcoming Honduran and Salvadoran presidential elections with Congressman Eliot Engel, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Congressman Engel talked about strenghening democratic institutions in Central America and the progress in the relationship between the region and the United States. Engel stressed U.S. policy towards the region should focus on technical assistance to solidify democaracy and elections, and that the country should not pick political sides during elections in Honduras and El Salvador.

"It's important for us here in Washington to hear to both sides," said Engel.
