Diva Hadamira Gastélum Bajo

Senator of Mexico and President of the Organismo Nacional de Mujeres Priistas

Diva Hadamira Gastélum Bajo is a senator from the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) in the Senate of Mexico and the president of the Organismo Nacional de Mujeres Priistas. She chairs the Commission on Gender Equality and is also a member of the Commissions for Human Rights and Constitutional Matters. Gastélum previously served as a federal deputy in the LIX and LXI Legislatures of the Mexican Congress from 2003 to 2006 and 2009 to 2012, respectively. While a member of Congress, she chaired the Special Commission on the Family, was secretary of the Commission on Human Rights, and a member of the Commission on Gender Equality. Gastélum was also a co-author of the Ley General de Acceso de las Mujeres a una Vida Libre de Violencia which promoted women’s rights to a life free from violence. She has also served as a local deputy in the LVI and LIX Legislatures of the State Congress of Sinaloa. Gastélum is currently the president of the Red de Mujeres Parlamentarias de las Américas and is the Mexican Senate’s representative to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. She earned her law degree from the Universidad de Occidente and her Master’s degree in Family Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa.
