Overview

Americas Quarterly and AS/COA hosted a private, off-the-record panel and roundtable on Strategies to Combat Piracy and Illicit Trade in Latin America in Miami. New technology is making it increasingly easy for criminals to steal and counterfeit products and services. These criminals—often with links to transnational gangs—trade them illegally throughout the region, creating security and financial risks across sectors. Expert panelists shared their experiences and exchanged ideas and best practices.

Speakers:

  • Carolina Ceballos, Regional Vice President for Anti-Money Laundering Compliance in Latin America and the Caribbean, Western Union
  • Alberto Gavazzi, President, Latin America and the Caribbean, Diageo
  • Alvise Giustiniani, Vice President for Illicit Trade Prevention, Philip Morris International
  • Cecilia Tornaghi, Managing Editor, Americas Quarterly (moderator)

The program allowed for select participation via WebEx for those outside Miami and offered a look at Americas Quarterly’s Special Report on Piracy.
