Each fall, Music of the Americas presents a group of exceptionally talented young singers from the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón (ISATC), the training division of Buenos Aires' historic opera house. As one of the leading theaters in the Americas, the Instituto has trained artists for the world's opera and ballet stages for decades.
In our thirteenth consecutive year, the traditional concert of opera favorites is reimagined for an online audience by stage director Mariana Ciolfi and musical director Marcelo Ayub. This concert will showcase these artists in an evening of opera favorites, from the tragic to the comedic, the lyrical to the light, these rising stars bring dynamism and intimate passion to the virtual stage.
Mariana Ciolfi studied régie at the ISATC, theater at Universidad de San Martín, and dramatic anthropology with Eugenio Barba at Odin Teatret in Denmark. She has received prizes and fellowships from the ISATC and Argentina's Fondo Nacional de las Artes to work on acting with lyrical singers.
Pianist and conductor Marcelo Ayub, studied piano at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo and conducting at the ISATC. He has been music director of these recitals since 2008, and has performed as a soloist with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires. He has conducted at the Teatro Colón and is on staff at the ISATC.
