Overview

Before the pandemic, China was already increasing its activities in Latin America. As the one of the major trading partners for most of the region, China’s influence is expanding into the financial and political realm. The country has continued partnering with governments in the region on a variety of areas, including financial investment.

As the premier organizations working with business and the local governments in the region on corrosive capital issues, the Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA) and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) are hosting this event to examine the impact of Chinese capital in the region.

Panelists will discuss how the money flows may introduce so-called Chinese sharp power into the region, affect democratic governance in recipient countries, and present potential consequences for private sector competition.
