President of Chile Michelle Bachelet opened AS/COA's conference in Santiago talking about how she help found the Women's Hemispheric Network five years ago with AS/COA President and CEO Susan Segal, as well as then-First Lady of Mexico Margarita Zavala, with the goal to share the lessons and stories of women's progress with the generations to come. Having more women in the workforce isn't just better for society, said the president, but, "It's a matter of smart economics," citing a statistic that Chile's GDP could get a 6 percent boost if more women were participating in the country's workforce.
