Inspiring to Lead with AS/COA's Women's Hemispheric Network

Since its 2012 launch, the network has provided a space for women across the Americas to forge connections and pursue professional goals.

"My main mission in life is not only to be a business woman, but really show that it is possible to break the glass ceiling," explained entrepreneur Leila Velez in a Women's Hemispheric Network (WHN) conference. Since its 2012 launch, AS/COA's WHN has provided a space for women across the Americas to forge connections and pursue professional goals. Women in leadership positions—such as Chile's former President Michelle Bachelet, former First Lady of Mexico Margarita Zavala, and Ellevest's Sallie Krawcheck—have shared their stories and advice with young professionals in nine cities across the Americas.

The result is a successful initiative. In a participant survey, nearly 95 percent of respondents felt inspired by panelists and women in WHN. Forty percent shared lessons learned with friends and colleagues through events, the WHN's portal, or social media. Also, 52 percent of respondents said they are putting advice and career strategies into practice after participating in events or accessing AS/COA's content on the issue.
