Video: Brazil Night with Americas Quarterly

Speakers:

  • Carol Pires, Brasília-based Journalist Formerly of Piauí Magazine
  • João Augusto de Castro Neves, Political Analyst at the Eurasia Group
  • Brian Winter, Vice President of AS/COA and Editor-in-Chief of Americas Quarterly (AQ)

"Brazil has lost a decade of growth in just two years," said Eurasia Group's João Augusto de Castro Neves. "And it'll probably take 10 years to recover in terms of GDP per capita." At an event launching AQ's new "Fixing Brazil" issue, panelists discussed the reforms they think President Michel Temer should prioritize. They also discussed potential candidates for the 2018 presidential election, and the need for a facelift for the Workers' Party (PT). "Lula was never concerned about the new generations of the PT," said Carol Pires, noting the party is now seeking new leadership.
