Video: 2013 Latin American Cities Conferences, Rio de Janeiro - Keynote Speaker Maria Silvia Bastos Marques

In partnership with Rio Negócios, AS/COA held a half-day conference in Rio de Janeiro focused on entrepreneurship and innovation, recreating Silicon Valley in Latin America, and technology in Rio de Janeiro.

Keynote speaker Maria Silvia Bastos Marques, president of Rio's Municipal Olympic Company, said that the Olympics should leave a positive legacy for the city. One part of that legacy, she noted, was that the city "finally has long-term planning" in place. Transportation projects will reduce the city's bus fleet of 9,000 by a third, aiming to reduce traffic. Bastos Marques also mentioned an "intangible" legacy: to change the culture of informality in the city.
