BBC: What Is at Stake in Venezuela?

COA's Eric Farnsworth spoke to BBC World News about the potential results of Venezuela's April 14 presidential election and the future of U.S.-Venezuela relations. "All of the polls and all of the anecdotal information will indicate that indeed [Nicolás Maduro] is going to win. The real question is by what amount,” he explained. Farnsworth also analyzed the likelihood of improved U.S.-Venezuela relations if Maduro wins the presidency. "It’s obviously speculation…part of Chávez’s plan or agenda for governing was being stridently anti-American so if you’re going to succeed someone like that," he said "[A]s the rightful heir of the departed leader you really have to be even more Chávez than Chávez was."
