Chrystia Freeland

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Global Affairs Canada

Chrystia Freeland was appointed Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs in January 2017. Freeland was first elected as the member of parliament for Toronto Centre in November 2013 and then re-elected in October 2015 as the member of parliament for University–Rosedale. From 2015 to 2016, she served as minister of international trade of Canada. Freeland began her career in journalism as a Ukraine-based stringer for the Financial Times, Washington Post, and The Economist. She then worked for the Financial Times in London as its deputy editor, editor of its weekend edition, editor of FT.com, UK news editor, Moscow bureau chief and Eastern Europe correspondent. She served as deputy editor of Canada’s The Globe and Mail between 1999 and 2001, before becoming the U.S. managing editor of the Financial Times. In 2010, Freeland joined Thomson Reuters. She was a managing director of the company and editor of Consumer News. She is the recipient of the prestigious Lionel Gelber Award and the 2013 National Business Book Award. Minister Freeland received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University before continuing her studies on a Rhodes Scholarship at the University of Oxford.

Freeland fue electa como miembro del parlamento de Canadá por el distrito de Toronto Centre por primera vez noviembre de 2013 y reelecta en octubre de 2015 como miembro del Parlamento por la Universidad de Rosedale.
