Panel: Mexico's 2015 Economic Outlook
Experts on the Mexican economy will discuss the country’s outlook for 2015 as the country faces global and domestic challenges.
Overview
(Video starts at 14:45)
AS/COA hosted a public panel with experts on the Mexican economy to discuss the country’s outlook for 2015. Mexico enters the year facing global and domestic challenges. Low oil prices may reduce investors’ appetites in the recently opened oil sector, and could undermine public finances in the medium and long terms. Last month, the peso hit its lowest level in more than five years. Yet a weaker peso and good prospects for the U.S. economy may strengthen Mexico’s exports sector, which represents more than a third of the economy. Experts will discuss Mexico’s GDP growth within the context of President Enrique Peña Nieto’s reform agenda, foreign investment, and other economic issues.
Panelists:
- Alonso Cervera, Chief Economist for Latin America, Credit Suisse
- Gerardo Rodríguez, Managing Director, Emerging Markets Strategy, BlackRock, Inc.
- Shelly Shetty, Senior Director and Head of Latin American Sovereigns, Fitch Ratings
- Katia Porzecanski, Emerging Markets, Americas, Bloomberg News (Moderator)
