Overview

The Council of the Americas Trade Advisory Group will host a private, off-the-record lunch discussion on trans-Pacific trade with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs at the U.S. Department of State Kurt Tong.

Tong will address prospects for the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, efforts to build and strengthen regional architecture in the broader Pacific, and U.S. strategy in the increasingly interconnected regions of the Americas and the Asia-Pacific.

Before joining the Bureau, he served for three years as the deputy chief of mission in Tokyo, Japan. Prior to his time in Tokyo, he was the U.S. ambassador for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), managing all aspects of U.S. participation in APEC.
