Overview

The Pacific Alliance has made progress in removing tariffs and rules of origin. In the financial sector, member countries formed the Mercado Integrado Latinoamericano (Integrated Latin American Market—MILA) in May 2011 to combine the exchanges and central securities depositories of Chile, Colombia, and Peru. This year, the Mexican Stock Exchange is expected to join MILA. In addition, Panama and Costa Rica, though currently observers, will become full members once trade agreements are signed with the four founding countries. Panelists will discuss the progress and potential of the Pacific Alliance and trade integration in the region.

Panelists:

  • Andre Loes, Chief Economist for Latin America, HSBC
  • Ambassador Carlos Arturo Morales, Deputy Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations
  • Joaquim Tres, Integration and Trade Lead Specialist, Inter-American Development Bank
  • Eric Farnsworth, Vice President, Americas Society/Council of the Americas (Moderator)
