Americas Society/Council of the Americas will host an expert panel to discuss the intersection between urbanization and technology that is helping cities in Latin America to be smart and prepare a future-ready economy with improved public services, air quality, and transportation systems.
Cities are centers of economic activity and hubs of innovation. Currently, half of the world’s population lives in cities, and in Latin America the figure is 80 percent. Technological innovations help cities address many of their most pressing challenges, including urban expansion, economic growth, job creation, urban mobility, and environmental impact. Open data and the Internet are changing the way we live in an ever-more crowded and interconnected world. As a result, cities are using public and private partnerships to build an ecosystem of public services and utilities to improve efficiency and better engage their citizens.
