Overview

The world is watching as Rio de Janeiro prepares to host the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games beginning August 5, making Brazil the first South American—and only second Latin American—country to host the games. Yet, significant concerns have been expressed over Brazil’s readiness. With a political crisis and economic recession underway, security and public health issues like Zika, environmental conditions, and the redevelopment of Rio, what should observers anticipate? Will the games be successful? Will the Brazilian people ultimately benefit? What will be the legacy for Brazil and Latin America?

Council of the Americas will hold a public, on-the-record interview with the CEO of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee, Sidney Levy.

Speakers:

  • Sidney Levy, CEO, Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee
  • Eric Farnsworth, Vice President, Americas Society/Council of the Americas (interviewer)
