Overview

Council of the Americas' Energy Action Group will hold a private, off-the-record briefing on Brazil’s natural gas sector with Sylvie D’Apote, founder and managing partner of Prysma E&T Consultores.

The dynamics around natural gas in Brazil are in a period of transition, offering new prospects for the development and management of the strategic resource. The country’s prolific presalt fields - now open to greater foreign investment - continue to break production records, bringing vast quantities of new gas to market. Meanwhile, state-owned Petrobras is scaling back its dominant position in natural gas distribution and transportation as part of a broader divestment campaign. D’Apote will brief Council members on how these and other trends factor into the long term outlook for natural gas development in Brazil, also focusing on Brazil’s role in the global liquid natural gas trade and the political uncertainties facing oil and gas regulations in Brazil.
