AS/COA will host a public panel with experts on Mexico to discuss the country’s economic and political outlook. On June 5, Mexico held gubernatorial elections in 12 states. The elections' outcome were widely considered to be a rejection of the governing party at a time when the present administration is suffering from low approval ratings due to discontent with violence and corruption, lackluster economic growth, and a continued decline of the peso. The election results represent a challenge for the present administration and may affect the government’s actions for the remaining years of President Enrique Peña Nieto's term. However, they also present an opportunity for Peña Nieto to reassess and take the necessary measures to alleviate Mexicans' malaise ahead of the presidential elections of 2018. Experts will discuss Mexico’s economic challenges and opportunities, as well as the political implications for the next presidential election.

Note: The discussion will take place in English.
