Please join us on Wednesday, October 15 for a lunch and panel discussion with the 2014 winners of the 76th Annual Maria Moors Cabot Prizes. The gold medal is given for excellence in journalism in Latin America and the Caribbean. This year’s winners include Frank Bajak, Associated Press, United States; Tracy Wilkinson, The Los Angeles Times, United States; Paco Calderón, Grupo Reforma, Mexico; and Giannina Segnini, La Nación, Costa Rica. In addition, this year, two Venezuelan journalists, Tamoa Calzadilla and Laura Weffer, both of Últimas Noticias, will receive the Maria Moors Cabot Special Citation Award. 

Panelists will discuss the state of freedom of expression in the Americas, the impact of crime and violence on journalism and the media, the challenge of media monopolies, the increasing use of laws and regulations to control media and threaten journalists, and the general state of journalism in the region.
