Overview

Council of the Americas will hold a conversation with U.S. Senator James Lankford (R-OK) regarding U.S. policy in the Western Hemisphere, including Central America and ongoing NAFTA negotiations.

Last month, Senator Lankford traveled to Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and the ICE Immigration Detention Facility in Houston, Texas in order to conduct congressional oversight of intelligence and security operations, immigration, counternarcotics operations, and trade in the region. He has taken on a high-profile role in calling for more accountability and oversight of U.S. assistance to Central America, and highlighting the strategic importance of NAFTA and building closer, mutually beneficial relations with our Latin American neighbors.

Lankford is a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Appropriations Committee.
