Business Implications of Brazil's New Anti-Bribery Law
Proponents argue the legislation encourages trade, while others are skeptical of the law’s wide scope and harsh penalties.
Overview
Brazil’s new anti-bribery law went into effect in January 2014 with a promise to curb corruption. Its impact on one of the world’s largest developing economies remains to be seen, but the law will have major implications for both Brazilian businesses and foreign companies operating in the country. Proponents argue it will encourage trade and give foreign investors renewed confidence in the government’s ability to enforce regulation, while others are skeptical of the law’s wide scope and harsh penalties. Please join AS/COA and the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce for a panel discussion on the impact of this new legislation.
